Container #22: Plumbago

May 22, 2020 By Cindy Jungman, SDSU Extension Master Gardener

You just can’t beat the sky-blue color of the flower clusters on this plant! Plumbago is actually a non-hardy shrub. It holds up to the strongest of winds, and produces flowers all summer. The Plumbago shrub is underplanted with petunia and lobelia plants.

RECIPE:
• (1) Plumbago “Imperial Blue”
• (3) Petunia “Shock Wave Coconut”
• (3) Lobelia “Techno Heat Blue”

TIPS:
• Although I used an obelisk in this container, it was just for looks. Plumbago plants need no support.
• Use well-draining soil, and then provide plenty of water.
• All plants in this container can be trimmed occasionally to maintain a fresh full look.
• Plumbago plants can be moved inside and grown as house plants in winter.
