Container #43: Angelonia, Vinca, & Hemizygia

May 22, 2020 By Cindy Jungman, SDSU Extension Master Gardener

Crisp and healthy looking, this container requires no ongoing maintenance except regular watering and fertilization. The filler plant in the middle, Hemizygia, is one of my favorites because of its upright full habit and green/cream coloring. In addition, it produces small lavender/pink flowers later in the summer. The “Tatoo Raspbery” vinca plants on each side of the Hemizygia have an upright growth habit, while the “Polka Dot” vinca in the front are trailers and serve as the “spiller” plants in this container.

RECIPE:
(1)Angelonia “Archangel Cherry Red”
(1) Hemizygia “Candy Kiss”
(4) Vince “Tatoo Raspberry”
(3) Vinca “Cora Cascade Polka Dot”

TIPS:
• Very little maintenance is required. You may want to pinch the tips of the hemizygia occasionally to keep the plant fuller.
• Fertilize regularly.
