Sioux Falls Community Garden Registration

January 21, 2022 By Minnehaha Master Gardeners

Sioux Falls Community Garden Registration is now open!

Do you want to learn the basics of gardening? Refine your gardening skills? Have an opportunity to share your extra garden bounty with others? Register for a garden plot at the Sioux Falls Community Gardens and see what you can grow! For a $20 fee, you will have access to an approximately 200 square foot plot at one of the seven community gardens located throughout the city that are supervised by SDSU Extension Minnehaha County Master Gardeners.

The Sioux Falls Community Gardens are a cooperative effort of the SDSU Extension Minnehaha Master Gardeners and the City of Sioux Falls. A local church, business and the school district contribute to the efforts by providing additional land for the gardens. The seven gardens each have assigned master gardener team leaders for assistance and questions. Locations and further information may be found on the registration website below.

Registration for new gardeners is at http://livewellsiouxfalls.org/…/sioux-falls-community… and is open until February 28. Returning gardeners, contact your master gardener team leader for renewal information before February 28.

Meet Regan Jacoby – The 2021 Minnehaha County Master Gardener Scholarship Winner

November 15, 2021 By Minnehaha Master Gardeners

Megan Jacoby was recently awarded the 2021 Minnehaha County Master Gardener scholarship in honor of Dr. Graper.

Regan is a junior horticulture student from Vesta, Minnesota, and has worked for the city of St. Cloud, Minnesota, as a garden employee at Munsinger-Clemens Gardens. At work, Regan is responsible for designing and planting beds, managing watering systems, caring for the resident peacocks and taking care of any maintenance needed in the garden.

She also welcomes and interacts with the public and garden visitors. Her favorite part of her internship so far is designing the garden beds.

“Imagine an entire greenhouse – a large one filled with plants, and you get to design a bed with whatever you can find there,” says Regan. “The staff has given me a lot of freedom to design and be a part of the planting process. I equally enjoy the people I get to work with and learn from. I have an amazing mentor who is a master gardener and has been with the gardens for upwards of 12 years.”

Congratulations to Regan – and her blossoming career!
