Our resident plant expert, Cami Jacobsen with Minnehaha County Extension Master Gardeners, is here today to shows us some of the year’s hottest house plants and tips for keeping them alive.

Over the last few months, the Minnehaha Master Gardeners have been hard at work building a pollinator garden at the base of Sioux Fall’s beautiful Arc Of Dreams.

Stating a pollinator garden may take about 5 years to get it to be totally functional and complete. In the meanwhile, we add annual blooms, like marigolds and zinnias. These attract bees and butterflies, and give passersby some color.

When planning a perennial pollinator garden, we considered not only size, we want to provide variety of nectors, blooms and blooming time. Native plants attract native wildlife & native pollinators.

Another component we wanted to add is a sign that explains what a pollinator garden is and why it’s important.
