Meg Cowden
With over 25 years of growing experience, Meg Cowden has grown right alongside her gardens, exploring the connection between native landscapes and food gardens ever since settling in Minnesota in 2003. Her passion for growing food, educating, and inspiring through photography and writing coalesces in her first book, Plant Grow Harvest Repeat. She is best known online as @seedtofork, a wildly popular Instagram account. She got her start garden writing on her namesake blog (seedtofork.com), which has grown to include her gardening subscription, The Modern Garden Guild.
She has been featured on PBS’ Growing A Greener World, regularly contributes to Northern Gardener magazine, is a recurring guest on MPR’s Minnesota Now radio program with Cathy Wurzer, and has been a guest on Twin Cities Live, a lifestyle TV show in Minnesota. Meg relishes the challenge of gardening in such a cold climate and is never short on growing challenges and new ideas. For Meg, the greatest gift is received among her garden beds, for gardening bountifully showers the attentive observer with life lessons - and the lessons are both profound and innumerable.

Mary Lerssen
Mary Lerssen was a nurse and gardener before she was a SDSU Extension Master Gardener. She developed her love of gardening as a child while gardening with her grandfather who grew grapes, asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, kohlrabi and many other fruits and vegetables. Mary uses primarily raised beds but also uses containers, vertical gardening and has utilized a community garden plot for onions, leeks, and potatoes. Mary has been supervisor of the community gardens, provided tours of her garden/yard, presented at education events, is active in the Sioux Falls Area Garden Club, loves sharing extra plants, etc.

Debi Ulrey-Crosby
Debi Ulrey-Crosby is a retired pediatric physical therapist who has had to learn to translate California style gardening to gardening in South Dakota. She grew up traveling the world since her father was in the Air Force and learned to love gardening because her mom grew tomatoes no matter which country or state their family was living. She has been an SDSU Extension Mater Gardener for 20 years and grows tomatoes, garlic, and a variety of vegetables and flowers in raised beds, traditional garden beds and loves to start seeds using a variety of methods. She likes to experiment with different plants or vegetables and recently grew saffron the past two seasons with questionable results. It’s always a different season with a different learning curve.
